With some careful research and preparation, you can find the perfect French Bulldog for sale in the Philippines and bring home a companion that will bring joy to your life. Overview When choosing a French Bulldog, there are a few things to consider. Consider the type of temperament that you want in a dog, as different breeds can have different personalities. You should also make sure to research the particular breeders you are buying from and make sure they have a good reputation. White and Fawn French Bulldogs are some of the most commonly found breeds. Depending on the particular breeder, you may be able to find other colors as well. No matter what color or breed you choose, make sure the French Bulldog is healthy and has been well cared for by the breeder. Once you have chosen your perfect Frenchie, make sure to get the necessary supplies and veterinary care, as well as enroll them in training classes. What to Consider When Buying a French Bulldog When buying a French Bulldog, it is important to be aware of certain considerations as you will want to find the perfect pup for you and your family. You should research different breeds to find the one that best fits your lifestyle. You should also consider the health of the pup and ensure that the pup comes with a health guarantee. You should check if the pup has been well socialized with people and other animals. You should make sure to find a responsible and reputable breeder to ensure that your pup is healthy, well-bred, and of good quality. It is also important to consider the cost of the pup, as some French Bulldogs can be quite expensive. You should factor in the cost of food, toys, and medical care for your new pup. You should also consider the time and energy that you have to dedicate to your pup, as French Bulldogs require a lot of attention and care. You should also determine if you have the space for a French Bulldog in your home. Taking all of these factors into consideration can help you ensure that you are choosing the best pup for you and your family. The most important factor to consider is research. It is essential to learn as much as possible about the breed before making a purchase. Research will help you to understand the specific needs and characteristics of the breed, as well as any health concerns that need to be kept in check. It is also important to find a reputable breeder who will be able to provide you with the necessary information you need to ensure that you are getting a healthy and well-adjusted dog. It is also important to ensure that the French Bulldog you are buying is from a reputable source. This means that the breeder has well-kept records concerning their breeding practices, and that the dogs have received the necessary vaccinations and vet check ups. You may be able to find a breeder who has an online presence, making it easier to conduct your research. Local breeders are also a good option if you prefer to meet the breeder in person. When you are ready to bring your French Bulldog home, it is important to make sure that you have all the necessary supplies and veterinary care prepared. This includes a bed, food, toys, and identification tags. Exploring the Reasons Behind This Common Pet Behavior You will also want to make sure to get your dog spayed or neutered, and to set up regular annual checkups with the vet. It is also important to provide your dog with regular training and socialization in order to keep them happy and healthy. Consider enrolling your pup in a training class. This is a great way to bond with your new pup, as well as helping them to learn good manners and obedience. Fawn French Bulldogs are a wonderful breed and make fantastic family pets. A good place to start is by asking your friends, family, and colleagues for referrals. Local breeders may also be an option, and can be a great way to get to know the breeder and the pet in person before making a purchase. Be sure to ask the breeder plenty of questions, such as how long they have been breeding French Bulldogs and the age of the puppies. Be sure to read customer reviews, ask for references, and make sure to ask them about the health history of their dogs. Make sure to ask how the puppy has been socialized and how much contact you will have with the breeder. Local Breeders When considering buying a French Bulldog from a local breeder, it is important to ensure that you are dealing with a responsible breeding program. You should ask questions about the parents of the puppies, their health and vaccinations, as well as the environment in which the puppies are being raised. You should check to make sure that the breeder follows the guidelines issued by the Philippine Canine Club. Make sure the facility is clean and that the puppies are being cared for properly. Take the time to get to know the puppies and their personalities. This will help you make the right decision when selecting your perfect pup. It is important to ask the breeder if they offer a health guarantee. This should provide you with peace of mind knowing that if your new pup develops any health issues, the breeder is willing to take responsibility. Online Breeders When shopping for a French Bulldog online, research the breeder before making a purchase. Make sure that the breeder is reputable, experienced, knowledgeable, and willing to provide references. Doing your research and taking your time to find the right Frenchie for you will help ensure that your pup is healthy and happy for years to come! Make sure you have all the supplies you need for your pup. This includes a high-quality food, treats, a collar and leash, a bed, toys, and any other items that will help your pup settle into its new home. You should also make sure your pup is up to date on its vaccinations, has been dewormed, and has been spayed or neutered. You should consider enrolling your pup in obedience classes or training sessions to help them become well-socialized. Make sure you visit the breeder before bringing your pup home and ask any questions you have. Before you know it, your pup will become an integral part of your family. Supplies When bringing home a French Bulldog, the right supplies are essential. Make sure to get a comfortable, cozy bed for your pup to sleep in, in addition to food and water bowls. Having a leash, collar, and ID tag will ensure your pup is safe and secure whenever you take them out for walks. When considering where to buy supplies, opt for quality and durability. Look for supplies that are waterproof and easy to clean, as well as ones that are comfortable for your pup. When it comes to food and water bowls, stainless steel ones are a great choice. Having the right supplies for your French Bulldog is essential for their health and well-being. Invest in quality items that will last, and make sure to get everything you need before bringing your pup home. With the right supplies and a little love, your pup will settle into their new home in no time. Find a reputable veterinary that offers a full range of services, from routine checkups to emergency services. Your pup will also need flea and tick prevention as well as heartworm prevention, as these issues can become serious if left untreated. You should also discuss heartworm tests and other tests that your pup may need depending on the age and breed. When you visit the veterinarian, make sure to ask them about any other treatments or tests that may be recommended for your pup. Your vet can also give you advice about the best diet for your French Bulldog and the type of food that should be fed. They can recommend an exercise plan for your pup and provide information about the proper way to groom a Frenchie. Taking your pup for regular vet checkups is also an important part of keeping them healthy and happy. Training Training your French Bulldog is essential for a happy and healthy life together. Start with basic commands such as sit, stay, and come, and work your way up to more advanced commands like fetch and heel. You can do this yourself or enroll in a local obedience class. Always start with positive reinforcement, like a treat or a pat on the head, and be sure to give lots of praise when your pup learns something new. Be patient and consistent with your Frenchie. If your pup is having difficulty understanding certain commands, go back and break them down into smaller parts. There are lots of dog trainers out there who can provide guidance and advice on how to get your pup to understand commands. Conclusion When buying a French Bulldog, make sure you do your research, consider all your options and come prepared to welcome your new pet. Familiarize yourself with the different types of Frenchie for sale in the Philippines and find a breed that suits your lifestyle. Look for a local breeder or shop online to find the perfect pup. Aside from being known for having a loving personality, these breeds are only one of the four kinds of Sennenhund-type dogs from the Swiss Alps. These dogs were generally known as farm dogs that worked hard. Eventually, the Bernese Mountain Dog breed mixed with the Poodle breed led to the creation of the incredible Bernedoodle dog breed. Types of Bernedoodles. Use tab to navigate through the menu items. What IS a Bernedoodle? These are NOT mutts which implies a breeding between unknown breeds or not carefully planned. These are designer breeds that are bred for a specific purpose. We produce an incredible bernedoodle that displays the qualities of both our champion line Standard Poodles and the Bernese Mountain Dog pedigrees. The advantage of a carefully planned mixed breed is that you get the added advantage of a phenomenon called "hybrid vigor". This process shuffles new combinations of genes that helps to increase longevity and decrease the usual ailments that impact many purebred dogs such as various forms of inherited types of cancer not all cancers have a genetic basis such as small and large cell lymphoma which is usually a result from environmental exposure. The bernedoodles are super healthy and are not as prone to the same issues that Bernese mountain dogs and standard poodles are. As a result, you have a family member for a lot longer and that will live a vibrant and healthy life if properly cared for diet, exercise, and family integration are all important components toward helping the dog to live a long happy life with you.You can see the links above about the qualities of Standard Poodles and Bernese Mountain Dogs as both are extraordinary breeds in their own right and for many, purebreds of these may be a great option as well. We prefer the Bernedoodle as they get the best of both breeds, incredibly loyal, goofy, smart, playful, intelligent, and has one of the best dog personalities we have seen in a family dog. The Premier F1 Standard Bernedoodle is a low- to mostly nonshedding we use standard poodles that do not carry the improper coat alleles and Bernese mountain dogs that have thick wavy curly coats. If you want a guarantee on non shedding, then you should try to select an F1b or F1bb bernedoodle. Both look amazingly similar to the F1 standard bernedoodles but maybe a little smaller. We will produce about 2 F1b and F1bb standard bernedoodle litters per year for those wanting a more curly coat in their bernedoodles. Premier Bernedoodles love to be with the family and do not do well in enviroments of isolation. Wherever the family is, that's right where they want to be. They are stunning dogs, and you'll likely get alot of attention and people asking you what kind of dog you have. They are beautiful and along with their incredibly gentle personalities, you will have an absolutely stunning dog. They are a perfect companion dog that love to go on walks through the city or hikes in the woods or mountains or a swim at the beach. They love it all and will be at your side the entire time. They don't tend to wander away as they prefer to be with you. They equally love just hanging out with you on the couch watching your favorite movie or watching you reading a book. They really love it all as long as you're a part of it. They are so loyal to the family. Bernedoodle puppies do have energy like most puppies, and this will continue thru about years of age at which time they really mellow out. They are not nervous nor hyper but will need some off leash time where they can really stretch their legs and run. The old motto "a tired puppy is a good puppy" always prevails! Just make sure they have a lot of fresh water and a cool spot to cool off afterward. Due to the the recombination and shuffling of new genetic variations, they do show some variation in their coloration however they also all have a common morphology that tells you it's a bernedoodle. Although we do take deposits on a first come, first pick basis, we will know the puppies well, their personalities, and can help select a puppy that best fits your lifestyle and what you are looking for. We only use Standard Poodles and Bernese Mountain Dogs to produce our Premier Bernedoodles so that any dog we accept into our Premier Bernedoodle program have passed stringent health tests, display family oriented personalities, and exhibit the best of conformation so that our bernedoodles are absolutely beautiful. Be very cautious when purchasing a purebred or bernedoodle without doing your due diligence as the puppies will always be cute, but will exhibit the personalities of the bloodline used later in life. Therefore, use a reptutable breeder that has invested in the dogs they use for their breeding programs and that raise them as their own family members. They should be able to produce their pedigrees as well, and should have both parents on site so you can see how they react to you. We are very Type A when it comes to the quality of dogs which makes it more difficult to give referrals. We are always going to be biased and believe that the wait for a Premier Bernedoodle is worth it and you'll be very happy you did! Also you can visit your local humane society and help rescue a dog at the shelter. If you have young kids be sure to get a younger dog from the shelter that can adapt to your family. But if you're looking for a unique new family member, a Premier Bernedoodle will be a true delight. Colors and Fur Our Premier Bernedoodles will be traditional tri-color much like a Bernese Mountain Dog , abstract tricolor similar to a traditional tricolor with less white in the face , sable similar to a traditional tri-color but has more reddish-browns due to the poodle genetics we use , phantom, merle, merle tricolor, or bi-colored brown and white, black and white, or shades thereof. Our F1b's will consist of black and whites, traditional tricolors, abstract tricolors, and lots of variable brown and reddish brown and whites. Color never reflects temperament and personality so usually most people don't really care too much what color they are. They are all really beautiful. Although there's variation due to the hybrid vigor present as a result of the recombination of genes in many arrays, there is definitely a bernedoodle appearance that is fairly consistent. If you let the hair grow, they will look like big shaggy dogs that you can't help but to give a big hug to. And they enjoy every minute of it! Our Premier Bernedoodles will tend to have wavy curly coats due to the coat types we require in our bernese mountain dogs which helps to minimize or eliminate shedding. We do make sure that our standard poodles do not carry the genetic marker known as the "Improper Coat" allele or IC for short. Wavy curly coats do require a little more grooming as compared to straight, but many, straight coats shed more.Although they are considered to be large, they don't act like a large dog in the house. They are generally very careful and calm natured as adults however they do have some puppy-fun energy thru the puppyhood stages and thru 3 years of age. They love people and other pets! We do thorough genetic testing of our adults that we use in our breeding program to assure that you are purchasing the healthiest of bernedoodle puppies. Our Bernese mountain dogs come from very long-lived blood lines in Western Europe and these longer lifespans is one of the many reasons we obtain our Berners from several specific populations known for their longevity. Obviously we can't guarantee lifespan as there are many variables outside of our control not to mention, environment, stress, climate, food, etc. But track record seems to show a longer lifespan. What's the Difference? An F1b is an F1 standard Bernedoodle backcrossed to a standard poodle or could be a backcross to a Bernese mountain dog but we generally use the poodle as the backcross. An F1bb is an F1b standard Bernedoodle backcrossed to a standard poodle. Behaviorally they are all very similar with the F1b and F1bb's being slightly smaller than our F1 standards and tend to have slightly curlier coats to a tight wave. If you're looking for a smaller standard Bernedoodle these would be a great option. Pictures are posted below with the other pictures. We continue to get lots of praise from those that have purchased our F1b and F1bb standard bernedoodles. Is the Bernedoodle for Everybody? I would like to think so, but if you do not plan on being with your bernedoodle and keeping it with you, in your home, as part of your home, this is definitely not the dog for you. They thrive on being with the family and not isolated we believe this is the case for all dogs, and especially bernedoodles. Any of our puppies kept in a permanent kennel situation, on a tether, or the like, will violate the terms and conditions of our puppy contract and will have to render the puppy or dog back to Premier Doodles see puppy contract in link above. We definitely support crate training, but these dogs are not meant to live their life in a crate nor kennel! If you want a pet that prefers to be in isolation, you may want to consider a nonsocial pet perhaps a Betta fish! Yes we have done a lot of the hard work the first 8 weeks as we do extensive early neurological stimulation bio-sensor and Puppy Culture program, along with starting crate training and housebreaking, BUT, they are puppies and will need your undivided attention for the next weeks as they work towards being completely housebroken and earning more privileges. They have been communicating with their siblings for the past 8 weeks using their mouth. During their normal daily interactions, you will occasionally hear a loud "yelp" in response to one biting another too hard. This yelp usually ends the mouthing behavior. Now puppies have fur and people generally do not. When you bring your bernedoodle home, they will likely display some degree of mouthing behavior toward their human family. This will usually stop this behavior. We then redirect their desire to mouth to something more appropriate like a chew toy and after a few seconds of cooperating we praise them. The good news.We have a Puppy Guide under our tab "Puppy Central" on how to unpack this process so that you can have success. If you put them time in early, they will have this knocked out in a few days. The rule of thumb is to get them outside ALOT.Be sure to purchase two Midwest XL crates can get from our Puppy Store , one for the back door and one next to your bed. The power of meiosis specialized cell division event that occurs in the reproductive organs, ovaries for females and testes for males and crossing over assures that each offspring will be diverse and different and this difference will be noticeable in color and a little bit in behavior. All will be superior, but some will be more playful and others less so, some will mouth more than others, etc. Available Puppies.Check out our "Available Puppies" tab at the top to find out how to get onto our Master List for a future puppy! Life Span Did You Know? These large, fluffy dogs are known for their non-shedding coats and lovable personalities. Bernedoodles tend to be a great addition to any family! Although the Bernedoodle is not currently recognized by the American Kennel Club, they are recognized by other dog registries. As long as they are properly socialized, they tend to be open and friendly dogs that get along well with just about anyone. These dogs tend to do well with children, other dogs, and other pets. Although they can be initially wary and watchful at first, they even tend to warm up quickly to strangers once introduced. Bernedoodles are highly adaptable dogs. They thrive in homes with yards where they can run. Despite their size and energy, they can also adapt to apartment living as long as they get enough daily exercise and attention. These dogs tend to handle the cold better than the heat; you may even have some trouble getting them to come back inside after some playtime in the snow. Because Bernedoodles bond so closely with their families and enjoy nothing more than being around them, they do not like to spend long periods of time alone. They can also be prone to skin issues like sensitive skin, allergies, and hot spots. Reputable breeders screen their dogs to avoid passing issues to puppies. Make sure you ask about the health and genetic history of both of the parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. As a large dog breed, the Standard Bernedoodle is also at risk for bloat like both parent breeds. The Bernedoodle is a highly intelligent and easily trained dog breed. Some facts about Bernedoodles are that they are a good fit for owners of any experience level and tend to pick up commands easily. Although they tend to grow out of this initial stubbornness with age, puppy training classes will certainly help with training and socialization early on. Bernedoodles tend to have a longer coat that ranges from curly to wavy. Although they tend to be non-shedding, they still need a lot of maintenance to keep their coat looking great. Daily brushing to remove tangles and prevent mats along with grooming every weeks are recommended. Nail trims once or twice a month are usually enough to keep nails from growing too long. Ear checks weekly with careful cleanings as needed can help prevent ear infections. Regurgitation and vomiting are caused by different factors and have different treatment options. A Boxer can throw up vomit with different consistency and color. These vomit types can give an insight into what could be the cause of the vomiting however this does not give a complete diagnosis. The different Boxer vomit types and the possible causes include: Clear liquid Clear liquid vomit can be caused by the expulsion of saliva or water when your dog vomits on an empty stomach or a Boxer vomiting after drinking water when nauseous. White foam A Boxer throwing up white foam can be caused by a buildup of stomach acid in the stomach which becomes foamy when exposed to the air when vomited. Yellow foam A Boxer vomiting yellow foam occurs due to throwing up on an empty stomach or vomiting partly digested food that has bile secretions. The bile secretion appears yellow or green. This often happens in the middle of the night or early in the morning. It also happens when a dog has not eaten for a while, has eaten a lot of fatty foods, or grass, or has drank a lot of water. Mucus Diet and several medical conditions can cause the throwing up of mucus, including toxins, intestinal blockage, intestinal parasites, esophagitis, or coughing up mucus due to an upper respiratory infection. Vomiting of mucus also occurs when a Boxer drools excessively and swallows the drool that pools in the stomach. This is then vomited out as mucus due to nausea. So, do Boxers have stomach problems? All dog breeds have stomach issues, some more than others which involve problems with the digestive system. Boxers also experience stomach problems just like any other dog. Stomach issues can be caused by illnesses or conditions that inflame or irritate the stomach. Common Boxer stomach problems include incomplete digestion of food, bloat, sensitive stomachs, upset stomach due to dietary indiscretion, food intolerances or allergies, and parasitic infections. These stomach issues lead to several symptoms that include, regurgitation, vomiting, diarrhea constipation, bloating, bleeding, dehydration, or abdominal pain. Complications Severe dehydration and loss of electrolytes are the most common complications of throwing up. Continuous vomiting leads to severe dehydration because of loss of fluids through vomiting which is life-threatening if treatment is not provided in time Vomiting is also a symptom of more serious health conditions such as infection, diseases, or poisoning. In most cases, your dog will vomit and continue to be active as usual. When your dog vomits, the first thing to do is to observe them and see whether the vomiting continues or if symptoms of an illness appear. If your Boxer does not have other signs of illness, there is no cause for concern. Secondly, do not feed them for 6 — 12 hours but provide plenty of drinking water. This allows their stomach to calm down and self-repair. If the vomiting does not continue, feed them their regular diet. Boxer puppy throwing up Boxer puppy throwing up is common and is often harmless. The vomiting can also be a sign of a serious underlying illness that can be life-threatening. Puppy vomiting is often serious because they quickly become dehydrated and lose critical electrolytes, which can quickly kill them, therefore immediately seek medical they start vomiting several times a day. When to Seek Help Vomiting is common in Boxers as well as other dog breeds, however, if the vomiting is too frequent and also appears with additional symptoms, this is a sign that there is a more serious underlying cause of it. The appearance of other signs of illness should not be ignored. When this happens, immediate medical attention is required. Seek medical care when your Boxer: Continues to vomit. Puppy vomit is common. This is because dogs have a well-developed vomiting center in their brains, which allows them to throw up much easier than many other animals. While most of the time harmless, puppy vomit can, however, be a sign of serious and even life-threatening illness. So, it pays to understand the full range of causes and implications. A: Yes, it is normal for puppies to vomit. Puppy vomit however can also be a sign of serious and even life-threatening illness. Q: A: Yes, it is not uncommon for puppies to vomit often. Puppies are subject to a range of condition and experiences that trigger vomiting such as eating too much, too often, eating foreign objects or intolerance to human foods, consuming toxic or poisonous substances, or as a reaction to conditions of stress or anxiety. How often is too often? Multiple episodes of vomiting on the same day or on subsequent days, vomiting accompanied by diarrhea, or acting sick or lethargic or appearing to be in pain are indications that it is time to call your vet. Q: Why is my puppy vomiting yellow? If your dog is throwing up bile with any frequency, you should have them checked out by a vet right away. Bile is a sign of a number of conditions that affect the digestive system, including inflammatory disease, ulcers, parasite infections, and certain cancers. In each of these cases, the underlying condition needs to be diagnosed and treated by a veterinarian to relieve the vomiting. Q: Why is my puppy vomiting white foam? A: Your puppy could be vomiting white foam for several reasons. The most common reason is that the puppy has eaten something that has irritated the stomach, such as grass and plant material. There are other more serious reasons a puppy vomits white foam, including obstruction of the stomach or intestines, toxin exposure, pancreatitis, and acid reflux. Coughing up white foam from kennel cough can often be mistaken for vomiting. If your puppy vomits white foam and acts sick in any way, call your vet for advice. Q: Why is my puppy vomiting after eating? A: There are several reason why your puppy might be vomiting right after eating. Overly-enthusiastic eaters, stressed puppies, or puppies who must compete with other dogs for food often eat too fast or too much food which can come right back up again. Try different solutions such as serving smaller meals more often throughout the day, placing food bowls in areas where there is less traffic or excitement, utilizing tools to slow down eating such as commercially-available slow feeder bowls, and where there is more than one dog in the house, feeding puppies in separate spaces can all help. If the condition is not environmental or conditional but rather physical such as regurgitation, consult with your veterinarian for an appropriate solution. While vomiting is not a specific disease or a diagnosis in and of itself, it is a clinical sign that can occur with many diseases or conditions. Generally speaking, occasional bouts of puppy vomit are not uncommon. If your puppy vomits once in a blue moon then it is likely no cause for concern. However, a puppy throwing up becomes more significant when: The vomiting does not stop There is blood in the vomit There is nothing left in the stomach to throw up except mucus and bile the yellow fluid Age matters, too. In puppies 6 months old or less, vomiting is also a more serious condition than in older dogs because of their smaller size, immature immune systems and tendency to become easily weak and dehydrated. While puppy vomit may have a simple, straightforward cause such as eating too much food too fast, stressful situations and gastrointestinal upset from eating foreign objects , it may be an indicator of something far more serious. Vomiting in puppies can have a wide range of causes, and determining the correct one may be quite complicated. For example, one of the more common and serious infectious causes of puppy vomit is parvovirus infection. Parvo is a viral infection that, if left untreated, is potentially fatal in puppies. Some symptoms that the puppy vomit is becoming more serious are: Frequent vomiting occurs more than once a day or on consecutive days Projectile vomiting when body expels vomit with more force than usual Appearing to be in pain or discomfort Acting tired or weak Bright blood present in vomit Dark blood present in stool looks like coffee grounds Vomiting in combination with diarrhea Visible abdominal bloating What are the causes of vomiting? The list is long and includes: Eating something that causes inflammation, obstruction or infection in the gut Abrupt change from regular dog food to something new Gobbling food or eating food too fast Intolerance to some human foods Reaction to stressful situations or condition of anxiety Acute bacterial or viral inflammation of the stomach or intestines Intestinal parasites e. Your veterinarian will utilize several tools to diagnose the problem, including a history from you what has been going on , a physical examination of your puppy, laboratory or imaging studies like x-ray or ultrasound or response to therapy. To help your vet make the diagnosis, bring a sample of the vomit to the clinic, because how the vomit looks can tell the vet a lot. A puppy throwing up food that is undigested can be due to food poisoning, anxiety, eating too fast or simply overeating. If bright red blood is found, the stomach could be ulcerated; if the blood is brown and looks like coffee grounds, the problem may be in the intestines. Strong digestive odors are usually observed when there is an intestinal obstruction. If it turns out to be no more than a passing incident, your veterinarian may ask you to limit the diet to clear fluids and to collect stool samples over that period as the underlying cause may be passed along in the stool. However, this is a widespread very serious canine disease. Worms from 6 to 14 inches cm long grow and burrow into a dog's heart. They multiply; up to worms can live in a dog's heart and arteries. It is vital for dog owners to understand prevention and treatment. The Boxer dog, among other dog breeds, is prone to this health condition. Passed on genetically, this type of canine disease is progressive — meaning that it will worsen as time goes by. It may cause loss of motor function, loss of coordination and in sadly, in some cases, paralysis. While more common among certain breeds, a dog of any breed may develop this. The Boxer and the Boston Terrier are both prone to this. Both dog breeds do have similar bone structure of their heads and it is also seen among some small breed dogs. With vomiting and bloating occurring, it is important to have this treated. There may be rapid weight loss due to the symptoms. The time span between eating and vomiting is what will distinguish 'regular' vomiting from this stomach disease. While a dog may vomit right after eating when having this health problem, he or she will also vomit up to 24 hour later…when there would usually be no food left in the stomach. With this Boxer dog stomach problem, the vomit will usually contain large pieces of undigested food. It is diagnosed by carefully documenting when the dog eats and when the dog vomits. Barium studies with X-rays may show the narrowed stomach outflow. In mild cases, the vomiting does not happen often and a dog can live a normal life without treatment. In severe cases, treatment must be given right away; if not, the dog can succumb to this canine disease. Surgery may be needed in some cases. Thankfully, the majority of surgeries are very successful. When puppies are born, these are passed on to them from dam to pups. For healthy Boxer dogs, this does not cause any concern and the dog will not have any health issues. A dog will often show strange symptoms such as repeated behavior as if a movie is looping over and over again , drooling, staring into space, confusion, falling down, stiff limbs or unconsciousness. Learn about the different types of canine seizures, the symptoms of each and what to do if this happens. It's bound to happen to every dog owner: You feed your pooch a meal and they gobble it up happily. A few minutes later, you hear them retching. Before you know it, your dog has thrown up their stomach contents, leaving you with a gross mess. When vomiting happens shortly after eating, the food will be undigested simply because it didn't have enough time to work its way through their digestive system. But why do our canine companions throw up undigested food? There are all sorts of reasons why a dog might vomit, including sickness, foreign body ingestion, toxins, and much more. While the occasional isolated episode of vomiting isn't a huge cause for concern more on that later , continuous or frequent vomiting definitely means something is wrong. Let's take a closer look at canine vomiting and regurgitation to help you answer the ultimate question: Why is your dog throwing up undigested food? What's the Difference Between Vomiting and Regurgitation? You'll often see the terms "vomiting" and "regurgitation" used interchangeably. But the truth is that these two are different. Regurgitation refers to the return of food into your dog's mouth after it's been swallowed. Your dog swallowed food, but it came back from the stomach through the esophagus and out of your pet's mouth. The esophageal muscles pushed the food back out rather than the stomach muscles. When your dog vomits, on the other hand, the food is pushed back out of the stomach by the stomach muscles. The contents could be undigested, or they could be partially or fully digested depending on how much time passed between your dog eating and their vomiting episode. Vomiting refers to the stomach expelling its contents, whether it's undigested food or partially or fully digested food. Why Do Dogs Regurgitate Food? Even if your dog is just regurgitating their food rather than vomiting, you'll still be wondering: Why is my dog throwing up undigested food? There are a few common causes of regurgitation in our canine friends. They include: Eating too much: If your dog overeats, their body might naturally expel their meal. Eating too fast: If your dog gobbles up food quickly, they might feel sick and wind up regurgitating their kibble. Stress or anxiety: One of the potential symptoms of stress and anxiety in dogs is nausea, and it can cause your pet to regurgitate a meal they just ate. Megaesophagus : This is a condition in which your dog's esophagus dilates, which stops food from moving into the stomach properly. You can usually tell when your dog has regurgitated food rather than vomiting it. Regurgitated food, disgusting as it may be, will essentially look the same as it did before your dog ate it. It will probably be slick with saliva, but it will basically be intact. Vomited food, by contrast, will be mushier and will probably contain some gastric juices like bile. Vomit may also be colored differently than Fido's food, taking on a yellow hue in many cases. And while regurgitated food will smell like, well, normal dog food, vomit will have a particularly foul and somewhat sour odor. Why Do Dogs Vomit Food? As described above, you can usually tell vomiting from regurgitation by the consistency, color, and smell of the stomach contents. So, why do dogs vomit? There are many possible causes. Foreign Object Ingestion One of the most common causes of vomiting in dogs is eating a foreign object or material, otherwise known as dietary indiscretion. Garbage, table scraps, socks, batteries, stones, bones, sticks — the possibilities are endless. Many dogs seem to enjoy eating grass , too — if you see the color green in your dog's vomit, this is usually the reason. Tell your veterinarian immediately if your dog ate something he or she shouldn't have. Intestinal Parasites Infestation by an intestinal parasite like roundworms, hookworms, or whipworms could cause a dog to vomit. If you see associated symptoms like diarrhea, loss of appetite, or lethargy, or if you spot worm segments in your dog's vomit or stool, an infestation might be likely. Luckily, worm infestations aren't usually difficult to treat. Your vet can prescribe a dewormer that will kill off the parasites. Poisoning If your dog ingests a toxin, such as antifreeze, pesticides, rat poison, or a medication like acetaminophen, vomiting could result. You might also see drooling, uncoordinated movements, or collapse. This is a medical emergency, and you should contact your veterinarian right away. Viral Infections Viral infections including parvovirus and distemper can cause vomiting, along with symptoms like weakness, appetite loss, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and more. Notify your vet as soon as you see these symptoms. Disease Aside from viral infections, plenty of diseases could cause vomiting as well. The list includes inflammatory bowel disease IBD , pancreatitis, Addison's disease, gastroenteritis, kidney failure, and much more. If you can't determine another cause for your dog's vomiting or regurgitation, let your veterinarian know — a disease could be the root cause. Motion Sickness Did you know that dogs can experience motion sickness, just like we can? If your dog vomits during or after a car ride, this is likely the cause. Your vet can recommend preventative measures or prescribe medication to help your pet feel more comfortable in the car. Food Allergies Dogs can be allergic to ingredients in their food, like chicken, pork, beef, soy, or wheat, for example. Vomiting is a common sign of food allergies, along with itchy skin, diarrhea, and possible weight loss. You'll need to work with your vet to conduct food trials to determine what your dog is allergic to. From there, you can change what your dog eats to avoid any problems. Want to help your dog feel less itchy at home? Native Pet's Allergy Chicken Chews target itchy skin and hot spots to help your dog feel more comfortable. They may be of use if your dog is prone to food allergies or environmental allergies. As you can see, there are all sorts of potential causes for your dog throwing up undigested food. And it's entirely possible that your dog doesn't have anything wrong with them at all — they might just have a sensitive stomach. So, what should dog owners do if their dog is vomiting or regurgitating food? If your dog regurgitates or vomits once and doesn't continue to expel food, keep an eye on them for the next few hours. If no further vomiting or regurgitation occurs and they seem fine, it was probably just an isolated incident. You can try giving them a bit of water or a handful of kibble to see how they react. You might also try feeding a bland diet of boiled chicken and white rice for a bit. This can be soothing for your dog's digestive tract. If the vomiting or regurgitation continues, or if you see symptoms like those described above, it's time to call the vet. And if you know your dog ate a foreign object, you should take your dog to the emergency room for veterinary attention. Your dog might have a blockage in the gastrointestinal tract, and it might require emergency surgery to correct. Here's the bottom line: If you're concerned about your dog's regurgitation or vomiting, or if you're seeing chronic vomiting, it's time to call your vet's office. It's always better to be safe than sorry. You can do your part to maintain your dog's good gut health by giving them a probiotic supplement. This helps to promote a thriving microbiome and large and small intestine, which can help avoid upset stomach and associated regurgitation or vomiting. Native Pet's all-natural probiotic powder is a great choice. Why is your dog throwing up undigested food? There are many possibilities. Usually, it's regurgitation. Your dog may have eaten too much, too fast, or they may be suffering from stress. Megaesophagus is also a possibility, so you'll want to check with your vet to be sure. If your dog is vomiting, it usually happens at least a few minutes after your dog has eaten. Your dog's stomach contents will probably be mushier and will look and smell less like the food they ate. In this case, it's time to call the vet. Disease, infection, parasites, foreign body ingestion, poisoning, food allergies, and much more could be to blame. Pay attention when your dog throws up food, whether it's undigested, partially digested, or fully digested. As soon as you think it's something more than an isolated incident, play it safe and call your vet. To learn more about your dog's health and care needs, visit the Native Pet blog here. Read more.
I will examine the unique temperament, personality, and characteristics of these gorgeous girls, and to help you decide which gender is the right fit for you. Male vs Female German Shepherds For some people, aside from simple size, weight, and height considerations, there really is no important or measurable difference between a male and a female German shepherd. But for other people, even the subtle differences between a male and a female German shepherd can be sufficiently important to make one gender a preferable choice to the other in certain specific situations. Female German Shepherd size, height, and weight One of the most obvious general distinctions about the female GSD is that she is generally leaner, smaller, and shorter than her male counterpart. The female GSD stands 22 to 24 inches high paw to shoulder , a full two inches shorter than the male. And the female GSD will weigh between 50 and 70 pounds, which makes her about 15 pounds lighter than the adult male. Coat Color and Pattern The bi-color coat pattern is the most common and recognized color for the German shepherd dog of either gender. In most cases, you will find a black female German shepherd that displays one other secondary coat color, either cream, red, tan, or silver. In certain cases, you may see a single-color GSD in blue, gray, liver, sable, or white, although these are not breed standard colors and may render your dog at fault or deemed ineligible certainly in the case of the white coat color for the show ring. There is no gender-related differentiation in overall coat color or pattern that is seen in the male versus female German shepherd. Female German Shepherd Personality The German shepherd female temperament can also show marked differences in behavior and personality that can be related back to her gender. Whether these differences are present and how apparent they may be will vary depending on the traits of the specific parent dogs, which is why it is important to be able to meet and get to know each parent dog as you are selecting between male and female German shepherd puppies. More likely to bond equally with more than one family member aside from the principle person responsible for training and meals. May be easier to train and more sensitive to commands and cues. Possibly a better pick for service dog or therapy dog work. Good for rally, agility, and obedience training due to lighter weight, smaller size, and more graceful body structure. Less apt to become territorial in the presence of strangers. Female German Shepherd Training The GSD is currently the second most popular family pet dog in America, and this is for good reason, but ongoing regular socialization and puppy training is a huge reason why! This is one of the most intelligent of all dog breeds! Your German shepherd has an incredibly strong work ethic with tremendous drive and focus while on the job. They will also bond strongly with the entire family. Positive training methods focus on delivering praise, playtime, pets, and treats in response to well-learned tasks and commands. German shepherds of either gender are hands-down one of the most popular police and K-9 dogs in the world. Some of these are German shepherd mix dogs while others are purebred GSDs. Socialization Everyone in the family should play a part in feeding and training your new pup. This will go a long way towards developing her tendency to bond closely with each family member. Make sure that she meets lots of strangers outdoors and at home. The window for socialization closes around 16 weeks old, so your first few weeks together are going to be busy. While a female German shepherd is lighter and shorter, she will still be strong from the get-go! Choosing the right collar and lead system will help you. Female German shepherds will need plenty of early socialization with young children in the family and with other family pets. Young children in particular will need to be supervised at all times in interactions with your female GSD puppy! Children may be unintentionally rougher with a puppy that can be easily tolerated and this can lead to preventable incidents. These issues include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, cardiac issues, eye issues, autoimmune thyroiditis, and degenerative myelopathy. Only hip and elbow dysplasia are currently required tests for reputable breeders, with the remainder being optional recommended health tests. German shepherds can sometimes contract a blood disease called hemophilia A. Female German shepherd dogs are usually carriers and, unlike males with the genes for the condition, will not show symptoms. There is a health test to detect this disease, which is present from birth. Idiopathic Epilepsy Interestingly, this condition is less likely to impact female German shepherd dogs than males. The reason is not yet known, although researchers suspect there may be several genes polygenetic involved. German Shepherd Spaying Having an un neutered female dog is inconvenient, but only for a few weeks of the year. Spaying is a commonly carried out procedure, but it does come with some risks. Certain health conditions are more common in girls that are spayed before 12 months old. This is because spaying gets rid of some important hormones. Urinary incontinence, mammary cancer and joint disorders are all more likely is your girl is neutered before a year old. Life Span Did You Know? The German Shepherd is one of the most versatile, well-recognized, and popular dog breeds in the world. The modern German Shepherd is descended from a family of various German herding dogs. Breed standards were not developed until the late 19th century when Captain Max von Stephanitz, a German cavalry officer, worked with Arthur Meyer and other breeders to develop the ideal German herding dog. Stephanitz and Meyer wrote the breed standard in and the American Kennel Club recognized the German Shepherd as a member of the Herding Group in .Although they were originally bred as herding dogs, they were also bred for versatility, which made the German Shepherd an all-around working dog that could excel in a variety of applications. German Shepherds are one of the common dog breeds employed in K-9 units in both police and military applications. They also make great service dogs and, of course, are still awesome herding dogs and farm dogs! The German Shepherd is a strong-willed and highly intelligent dog. They have a playful, energetic spirit and tend to get along with children, other dogs, and other pets, which makes them a great family companion. A born protector, the German Shepherd will provide a great sense of security for their family while their loving and lively personality will make them fit right in as a companion. German Shepherds are naturally protective and can be wary of strangers at first. A well-socialized German Shepherd will bark to alert you and tends to warm up to strangers once introduced. German Shepherds are dogs that were bred to herd and work. This, plus their high energy, makes them a better fit for homes with fenced yards where they can run. They can adapt well to larger apartments as long as plenty of time is dedicated to ensuring they get enough exercise, mental stimulation, and attention every day. A bored, ignored, or under-exercised German Shepherd can often become a destructive one. They also can be sensitive to their surroundings and large gatherings can be off-putting. With a longer coat, they tend to prefer cooler climates and are sensitive to heat. The German Shepherd is a generally healthy breed, but there are some potential health concerns and good breeding practices make a big difference. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a German Shepherd include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia , and degenerative myelopathy. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. As a barrel-chested breed, the German Shepherd is also at risk for bloat. While the German Shepherd is highly intelligent and highly trainable, they are generally not recommended for novice owners. If you are a novice dog owner, enroll in puppy training classes or enlist the help of a professional dog trainer; not just for your dog, but for yourself as well. With their versatility and athleticism, you can try a lot of different activities when puppies finish growing and they are cleared for higher-impact things. The Golden Retriever has been an AKC-recognized breed since and was commonly used as a gun dog and for retrieving small game such as waterfowl, and for companionship. The Golden Retriever originated in the Scottish Highlands. The first Lord Tweedmouth, Dudley Majoribanks, is credited with developing the breed and keeping detailed records to create the ideal gun dog for the terrain. Great discipline and a gentle spirit make the Golden Retriever a perfect retrieval breed since the goal of this task is to bring the trophy back as undamaged as possible. Golden Retrievers first appeared in dog shows in at a British dog show. They also started appearing in the United States around the same time as they were brought across the Canadian border. They gained popularity with sport hunters and in general. Their popularity really took off in the s and they are consistently one of the most popular dog breeds. If you are not the sporting type, bringing a Golden Retriever into your family as a pet is just as rewarding because they are one of the most loyal and jovial breeds out there. One of the facts about Golden Retrievers is that they are the epitome of friendly and make fantastic family dogs. Golden Retrievers are considered one of the friendliest dog breeds. They tend to be good with kids, other dogs, other pets, and even strangers. Goldens love attention and they bond closely with their families. They are affectionate with them, and also just about everyone else. Although they do tend to get along with everyone, they love being around their favorite humans the most. They will bark to alert you and can end up barking a lot if you do not train your dog to stop barking early on. Golden Retrievers are highly adaptable dogs. They thrive in homes with yards where they can run. They can also adapt to apartment living as long as they get enough daily exercise, mental stimulation, and attention. These dogs do well in just about any climate, but are sensitive to heat. As one of the most affectionate dog breeds , they are not at all happy about being left alone for long periods of time. Although super-friendly and attention-loving, Goldens can also be sensitive to their surroundings; make sure they feel included, but have a quiet place to go if things get too noisy or overwhelming. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a Golden Retriever include progressive retinal atrophy, cataracts, elbow dysplasia , and hip dysplasia. Good breeding practices make a big difference in the health of puppies. Reputable breeders screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you ask about the health and genetic history of the parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. Goldens are considered one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners. They are highly trainable dogs that pick up on things quickly and are eager to please. These traits make them a good fit for owners of all experience levels. It also helps them excel at obedience competitions. As one of the smartest dog breeds , Golden Retrievers can get bored easily. Because they pick up things quickly, they can get bored with too much repetition in training. If your dog has mastered the command, move on to something more advanced or another activity. You can also enroll in puppy training classes for some variety in training and also some socialization. Golden Retrievers have a long double coat that will shed a little year-round and will be heavier twice a year as the seasons change. Brushing a few times a week and daily brushing during seasonal shedding along with a bath as needed is usually enough for at-home care. You will want to go to the dog groomer for a professional trim a few times a year, especially as the seasons change. Nail trims once or twice monthly keep nails from growing too long. Daily tooth brushing, along with cleanings at the vet when needed, is ideal. Golden Retrievers are one of the most active dog breeds. Daily walks plus some playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough to keep these dogs happy and healthy. But, they are high-energy dogs that will likely always be up for more activity if you are. Much like the Labrador , they also tend to have an extended puppyhood. They tend to start winding down a little around the age of 3 and settle into your lifestyle, but they will still be high-energy dogs that require a lot of daily activity. Goldens are known for being versatile and athletic dogs. They tend to love swimming. Once they are done growing and the vet clears them for higher-impact activities, you can try other things too. They are one of the dog breeds that make good running partners. You can also teach them how to play frisbee or play fetch. Training for dog sports is another good option. In addition to obedience, Golden Retrievers are well suited for agility, dock diving , rally, flyball, tracking, and more. Fully-grown Golden Retrievers usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. Golden Retrievers generally live for years on average. With their intelligence, eagerness to please, and gentle disposition, Golden Retrievers are versatile working dogs. In addition to being one of the dog breeds that make the best service dogs , Goldens can be found working as emotional support dogs, certified therapy dogs, search and rescue dogs, military dogs, police dogs, animal actors, and more. The range of amounts is based on the activity of your Golden for the day, either low, moderate, or high level of activity. Golden Retrievers should have scheduled times to eat daily. The scheduled times will help them with their energy levels and keep them healthy. You can schedule their eating times as to what works best for your schedule. For example, feeding them before you leave for work and then when you get home. As a puppy, they will eat three times a day, so you will need to find times in those first few months to feed them more often. When they are an adult or senior, the scheduling of feeding times will be easier because they will only eat twice daily. For a Golden Retriever puppy, the best feeding schedule is once in the morning, noontime, and in the evening. For example, you could feed their first meal at am, lunch at noon, then dinner at pm. Planning their mealtimes around your mealtimes will often make it easier for you and the puppy. Make sure to give them plenty of time after eating to got to the bathroom a couple of times before heading to bed. Hopefully, this will help them sleep for a longer period. After about six months, your Golden Retriever can go down to two daily feedings. This usually occurs once in the morning and once in the evening. They can usually last about 12 hours between meals. If it goes past 12 hours, they could become nauseated. Golden Retrievers can experience food allergies often caused from proteins in dairy or meat products. If your dog experiences symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, or itching they may have a food allergy. They warn that feeding dogs any raw animal-source protein could cause illness because it has not gone through a process to remove harmful pathogens. However, a raw diet can be healthy if you are willing to go through the extra cleaning processes of the meat. This is a lot of work and difficult to do correctly and safely. We do not recommend it without expert veterinary help. Before starting a raw diet with your Golden, be sure to consult a veterinarian. Find one that is familiar with raw foods and can help with the proper handling of the foods. If you work hard to make sure your homemade foods are rich in the vitamins and minerals that a dog needs, then it might work for your Golden Retriever. It takes a lot more time to find recipes and make sure it has all the nutritional value of a store-bought dog food. If you are willing to research expertly formulated recipes internet is making it easier to do this , and take the time to cook for your golden then go for it! Consulting your veterinarian is a must before starting any homemade diet. A veterinary nutritionist should also review your plan before starting. Feeding your Golden Retriever table food is not the best practice but a small amount of dog healthy table food is fine. Some example table foods that are healthy for them are carrots, blueberries and plain yogurt. Just be aware that feeding them too much table food can throw their entire diet out of whack. They may not be getting enough vitamins and minerals like they do from their dog food. Conclusion Making sure your Golden Retriever is getting the right foods at the right amounts will help them live their best life. There are many choices of foods with all the right ingredients. Be sure to choose one that works best for you and your Golden. Consult with your veterinarian on which food will bring the most nutritional value to the health of your Golden Retriever. If your Golden is experiencing any health issues related to changing foods, visit your veterinarian. If this article was helpful, please consider sharing this post on Facebook with the button below! But feeding optimal amounts of the right foods at each life stage helps him stay strong and healthy, and may help him avoid breed-specific health issues later in life. If fed properly, he'll be more resistant to common golden issues like hip and elbow dysplasia, heart conditions, eye disease and cancer. His diet should be at least 60 percent protein. Accents like shrimp tails contain glucosamine to protect hips and joints, and antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables can help combat cancer. Needs Change With Time Your golden's nutritional needs evolve as he does. Although he'll need around calories as an adult, his puppy self needs more. When he's half grown-around 40 pounds-he'll need 1. At 75 percent full grown-about 55 pounds-he'll need 1. As you design his meal plan, continue incorporating glucosamine-rich foods or supplements, along with antioxidant-laden foods to combat cancer. When It Comes to Calories, Make It Count Getting enough calories during puppyhood is important, but nutritional density and quality are more important. This means your golden's diet should focus on identifiable animal proteins like poultry, fish, lamb, bison, venison and eggs. Some dogs can't tolerate beef, so approach it with caution. If you're feeding commercial, make sure a known source of meat is the central ingredient. Whether commercial or homemade, meat should be followed by other healthy ingredients like vegetables, fruits and healthy oils. How to Feed Throughout the Day Feeding schedules vary depending on dog parents' schedules and preferences. A regular feeding schedule helps offer a sense of routine, and eases potty training -- he will likely need to go out after eating. Once potty trained, schedules may shift a bit. But feeding a few smaller meals throughout the day is more satisfying for your furkid, and helps reduce the chance of bloating, a known risk in big breeds. After all, your little angel is going to be big--someday. More Articles. No matter how much food you put in their food bowl, your Golden still seems to be hungry. Goldens are big and energetic dogs so expect them to have a ravenous appetite. They will be eating a lot. However, overfeeding your Golden is never a good idea and should be avoided at all costs. A golden retriever food guide is helpful, which is discussed in this article. Knowing exactly how much food your Golden needs can be tricky. But it is essential for their health and well-being. Goldens tend to put on extra weight, which results in bone and joint problems. This condition will only be worsened by unhealthy feeding. Calorie Requirements — Golden Retriever Food Guide Golden retrievers can weigh up to 75 pounds at most and 55 pounds at the lower end. For active Golden retrievers, the suggested calories range from to per day. This amount increases with pregnant and nursing Golden retrievers. They require 2 to 4 times more. The mother has higher energy requirements, especially after delivery and during nursing. Food amount It is crucial to know just how much food your Golden retriever should consume. On average, an adult Golden retriever female should be given two cups per day. But extremely large Golden retrievers will require 4 to 5 cups per day, especially if they are extremely active. If you leave your Golden at home when you travel, they will be exercising and playing less. Their caloric requirements will drastically decrease and should even be cut by half. What About Fast-Growing Puppies? Because of this, they are prone to skeletal and joint issues. Several of which may not actually show up until the adult stage. In contrast to human children, a Golden retriever puppy that is overfed will grow extremely fast. Puppies from the same litter with different feeding routines will vary in growth and size. A week-old puppy that is overfed will grow fast than a puppy fed with healthy portions. The growth of your puppy needs to be managed and controlled, even if they are not fat. Feel the ribs It is crucial not to underfeed your dog. A good way to know if they are within a healthy weight is to feel the ribs lightly. A dog must not be extremely thin to the point that you can visibly see their ribs even when they are wet. Guidelines for Puppies A majority of dog food brands on the market will instruct feeding beyond healthy portions. Increase the amount to 3 cups per day when they reach five months for male puppies and six months for female puppies. Lanky looking puppies If the ribs of your puppy are not visible, they are not too thin. Goldens at the puppy stage are supposed to be lanky looking, expect your Golden retriever to always seem hungry even if you feed them optimal amounts. If you overfeed them, they will grow too fast. Keep in mind that in the wild, dogs do not have unlimited access to food. Rather they hunt for their food. Caloric needs of puppies after a year When puppies reach the age of 12 to 14 months, their calorie requirements decrease. Several males will require 4 cups if they are active and are fed with less expensive food. It is crucial to consider the number of additional calories you feed them as treats. Regularly feel their ribs about once a month. You must be able to feel their ribs under the muscle and fur. If the ribs are visible, it is crucial to increase their food portions. Cut down food portions if you cannot feel the ribs. If your dog is extremely active, you must give them more calories. It is better to underfeed a dog rather than overfeed, especially when it comes to puppies. It is an ideal way to give them optimal nutrition levels so they will be healthy and allergy-free. As a Golden retriever owner, your top priority is to make sure that all ingredients utilized in home-made food are safe, and it has the full range of nutritional requirements in every meal. Remember that transitioning your Golden to home-made food from kibble is a slow adjustment and should be done gradually. For puppies, one month to four months, feed them three times a day. But it is crucial to consult with your vet first. Make meal preparations that can last a week or a month. Measure and manage portion sizes. Freeze meals for two or three months or refrigerate them for up to five days. Create a fresh batch when the food supply is low. Make multiple batches of food if you want to feed your Golden different recipes. Make sure to color code the ingredients and rotate the different meals. Prep food in bulk portions and store them in containers. Having one container per meal makes it effortless for you to give meals daily. Why is consulting with a vet important? A majority of pet owners lack information regarding the optimal amount to feed their dogs. Thus, it is crucial to get professional recommendations on getting started on a home-made diet for your dog. It minimizes the risk of leaving your Golden vulnerable to nutritional deficiencies due to an unhealthy diet. Guidelines to follow when cooking home-made food for your dog Avoid using toxic ingredients as well as unsafe food products for your dog. Make sure to cook all animal products thoroughly to get rid of dangerous bacteria. Cook all grains and starchy vegetables to make them soft and digestible. Before using an ingredient research on its safety and nutritional components. Follow each step of the recipe. You Might want to consider adding supplements to the home-made meal as needed. Know the impact of switching diets. Consult with your vet prior to changing to a home-made food plan. As Golden retrievers advance in age, they will need fewer calories. When it comes to puppies, they will require about twice as many calories per pound of bodyweight comparable to adult dogs of the same breed. Being a large and energetic dog, your golden retriever has a ravenous appetite and can eat a lot. However, overfeeding is never good and could be avoided with the help of a golden retriever feeding chart. Knowing how much to feed your golden retriever is always tricky but essential for their well-being and health. Goldens are prone to obesity and joint problems, which can only be exacerbated with an inadequate feeding plan. So, stay with me to find the right feeding plan and meal schedule for your goldie. Most first-time owners think their puppies should be chubby. In truth, golden retriever puppies are supposed to look lanky and act like they are always hungry when fed the correct amount of food. To encourage proper growth and development without making your pup obese, you will have to know how much to feed a golden retriever puppy. For example, cheaper foods use fillers and have a smaller amount of calories, thus you will have to feed more than you would when using premium large breed puppy foods. They are famously loving and playful family pets, always eager to jump in the pool or snuggle up with you on the lounge. They are patient and energetic dogs who are easy to train, making them excellent service animals as well as loyal companions. If you are bringing a Goldie into your family, you might also be aware of their reputation as food lovers. Your Goldie might want to eat anything and everything you put in their bowl — and maybe even anything left on an unattended plate. In this Golden Retriever feeding guide, Hypro Premium will take you through everything you need to know when it comes to food options for your pup. The best food for most young puppies is milk. If you are weaning a puppy, you can start to mix in a little dry kibble with their puppy milk to create a paste. You can feed this mix to your puppy up to four times a day, slowly reducing the amount of milk you mix in. Over time, your Goldie puppy will get more comfortable with solid foods, until you no longer need to include any milk in their diet. While chubby little puppies are cute, your Goldie should not build up too much excess fat once you start feeding them solids. Goldies go from a small 4kg puppy at 7 weeks old to an almost 30 kg adult dog in the space of only 10 months. At six months old your puppy will still be growing, but more slowly as they reach most of their body development milestones. This is why appropriate feeding in the first year of their life is vital to the overall health of your Goldie for years to come. Over time this can increase to up to 4 cups a day at 10 months old, though females should usually only need 3 cups a day. The amount you feed your puppy is often dependent on their size and sex. While they may have some growing left to do, it depends on your dog. Some Goldies will continue to experience growth spurts before their second birthday, while others will stay the same size. Large breeds can be at risk of growing too fast, which can make them more vulnerable to skeletal and weight problems when they get older. Golden retrievers are especially prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, which can be avoided through diet control. You should feed your Goldie between 3 — 4 cups of food per day over two meals. Adult dogs and puppies have different nutritional needs. This is important to take into consideration as you are establishing a feeding schedule for a Golden Retriever puppy. Puppies require more calories to support their rapid growth than adult dogs, but they also have much smaller stomachs, which means they get fuller faster. Because of this, puppies can easily overeat, especially Golden Retrievers. You can help your puppy avoid overeating by allowing them a short amount of time to eat, and then removing their bowl. All puppies grow a lot during their first year, but large breed puppies are more likely to suffer from negative health consequences as a result. In order to provide your Golden Retriever puppy with the most appropriate food to support their rapid growth, consider choosing a large breed puppy food. Goldie puppies need lots of protein, fibre, and fatty acids to support the development of their bodies and provide them with energy. These foods also take into account the difference in nutrient digestion between small and large breeds. Too much of these nutrients can cause your large breed puppy to develop skeletal abnormalities. So how much do you feed a Golden Retriever? Your adult Goldie could need anywhere between and 1, calories per day. The amount of food you feed your dog will be determined by a few important factors. The first thing to consider is the sex of your dog. On average, your male Golden Retriever will need slightly more food than a female dog. Senior dogs will usually be less active and so will need less food. Goldies in particular can have a lot of variation in the amount of food they need on a daily basis. No matter how much you feed your dog, it is ideal that you feed your adult Golden Retriever two meals a day at evenly spaced time intervals. Feeding your dog twice, once in the morning and again in the evening, can be useful for establishing a routine and avoiding overfeeding. This routine can also include exercise, and is useful for encouraging healthy behaviour around food and toilet training. Special Considerations Your Golden Retriever could be predisposed to several health conditions that are important to consider when you make decisions about their diet. Firstly, Golden Retrievers are known for their beautiful coats, but their skin can often become infected. Goldies love swimming, but this can cause problems if water irritates their skin. They can also be susceptible to atopic dermatitis, which causes extreme itchiness, resulting in licking and biting behaviours in dogs that can cause even more damage. For dogs prone to skin and coat issues, a fish-based diet can help alleviate symptoms. Fish contains plenty of fatty acids, which support coat and skin health, and rarely triggers any allergic reaction in dogs. Goldies often benefit from healthy grains in their diet, especially as avoiding them can actually leave your dog more vulnerable to nutritional dilated cardiomyopathy, or nutritional DCM. This heart disease is common in Golden Retrievers, and can be triggered by consuming too much grain-free pet food that contains legumes like lentils and peas. You should consider feeding your Golden Retriever foods that are full of grains and proteins like chicken or fish. These are the benefits and drawbacks of the three most popular options — wet food, a raw food diet, and dry food. Wet food can be a great option for dogs that need plenty of protein and fat, like working dogs or dogs with certain health conditions. It also hydrates your dog while they eat, which can be useful for dogs suffering from any illness. For dogs with highly restrictive diets, raw food prepared by you can be a great way to avoid allergens. You can have complete control over a raw diet, which does require a lot more work on your part, but can have great results. For instance, a Golden Retriever with heart issues should eat a low salt diet, which can be easier to achieve if you are preparing their meals from scratch. However, low quality kibbles tend to be made up of a lot of low quality fillers, which can be hard for your pup to digest. Whatever option you choose for your Goldie, make sure it is suitable for large breeds and contains high quality ingredients. This will help prevent degenerative health disorders in the long run. Your Golden Retriever will probably love food, and will probably try to eat anything you put in front of them, which means you need to help them avoid the negative consequences of overeating. Golden retrievers, like other large and active breeds, need plenty of exercise. Not only is this vital to their physical health, but it also ensures they grow up well socialised and mentally stimulated. As your Goldie grows from a puppy to an adult dog, the amount of meals they need a day will reduce as their digestive systems become more developed. Your dog will need two meals a day, once in the evening and once in the morning, from the age of 6 months.

Labradors: What To Consider As with all dogs, there are some things that you absolutely must consider before you add a Labrador into your home. And, Labrador training is always going to be a big essential. With all of their amazing energy, intelligence, enthusiasm for work, and highly social nature, also comes a list of requirements for potential owners. Unfulfilled and untrained Labradors are likely to find themselves a job or another outlet to release that energy and frustration. This can lead to destructive or inappropriate behaviours and a dog who is simply out of control. Typical challenges can include pulling on the lead and lunging towards anything that interests them, boisterous and over-excited behaviour including jumping up, grabbing the lead in their mouth, crashing into people and objects, stealing food and other items, and running off to greet people and dogs instead of coming back when called. But what do you need to do to make sure that they grow up into perfect family pets? Check out our top tips below to find out more about training this sweet and fun-loving breed. Socialise them early! Early appropriate socialisation is key with this breed. This includes all kinds of places, people, animals and sensations that will be a normal part of their life by the time he or she is 12 weeks old. Self-control is a big part of Labrador training Teaching your dog self-control is a really important skill for a Labrador, or any dog really, to have. You can help teach them self-control through impulse control games and real-life situations. This will help with teaching them basic doggie manners such as how to politely greet people and other dogs with all four paws on the ground, how to wait for their food bowl or their lead to be clipped on, how to pass through the door politely without dashing through, and so on. All those skills require mental self-control and focus despite distractions, which is essential for an excitable and boisterous dog. Lead etiquette is always needed Teach your Labrador to walk politely on a lead from as early an age as possible. For a Labrador, the world is full of fascinating scents, posts and tufts of grass that must me scent-marked immediately, especially for males, dogs and people that he or she is absolutely delighted to see including strangers , and objects that must be immediately investigated. This makes it hard for them to remember that there is a person on the other end of the lead. But with lots of practice, patience and a smart way of rewarding that works for them, keeping an eye on their human counterpart can become a habit for your dog that will last a lifetime! Once this happens, training will become a lot easier. Even better, the whole family can get involved and play with the dog. Recall is vital Teach your dog a reliable, fast and enthusiastic recall as soon as possible. This is so that no matter what other fascinating things are going on, they will always turn on a penny and run like the wind back towards you! Having a great recall is not only useful for your day to day lives, but it is also a safety concern. If there is a potentially dangerous situation for your pup ahead, you can always recall your dog back to you and keep them safe! Their mental wellbeing and happiness is important too! So, make sure to provide plenty of exercise and mental stimulation, including walks, swims, and sniffing opportunities. So, make sure that you provide them with something appropriate to do if you have to leave them alone. Food dispenser toys, puzzle games for dogs and appropriate raw bones can keep your dog busy and calm, and your furniture and shoes whole! Keep health and wellbeing in mind Always try your best to keep your dog slim and fit. Labradors have a tendency to become overweight because of their keen appetite. You can help to keep your dog lean by feeding them the right amount of nutritious food for their age and activity level, using their normal food as training treats wherever possible so that they can work for their food, and a versatile and appropriate exercise regime that you really stick to! And their appearance! And, regular health checks at the vet are important for any dog, to ensure that they are well and any potential health issues are caught early. As for you, full nights of sleep will start getting closer and closer. Alone Training How can I teach my Labrador puppy to be ok on their own? Start by feeding your puppy in their crate during meal times. If they seem worried by you leaving, stay in view, and just pop right outside their confinement area. Keep it short and sweet: No need to stay away for long, 60 seconds tops will do for now. Repeat: Do this at least once a day to make progress go steady and smoothly. Socialisation Exercises To Do this week Letting your Labrador puppy explore the garden Besides the gnomes and questionable garden furniture you may have, letting your puppy explore your own garden is a great and safe way to start showing them the sounds, lights and wonders of the outside world. Exploring different surfaces exercise Make sure that the surfaces you use are safe — nothing too crazy just yet. Gather surfaces such as An oven tray with a small layer of water A piece of astro turf A carpet tile A large piece of tin foil, cardboard or something crinkly PRO TIP: Set up for this exercise in the room your puppy spends most of their time in — it will help them to feel safe and confident. Pop the surfaces out safely on the floor and allow your puppy to investigate them. Nobody has ever enjoyed walking on those. Remember to be patient! Lucky for you — teaching them their name is easy peasy. Say their name in a happy jolly tone and reward with a treat. Repeat five times, 5 and take a break. Practice this 2 or 3 times a day so they get the hang of it. Teach your puppy to sit Teaching your puppy how to sit is a popular one. The first two are far more common though. Keep using this word when they do the right thing, and then follow it up with a food reward. In puppy logic, stinky means yummy. How to do it Start at home; where there are no distractions. Just make sure to shut off Gogglebox in the background. Recall — How to teach our Labrador puppy to come back when called Your puppy already knows their name at this point, so this should be a walk in the park. How to do it Treats and a cheerful voice will be what works here. Do these exercises before meal times so your puppy is more motivated. Practice this 5 times a day and in 3 different places in your house and garden to get them used to coming to you in all settings. How to do it Show your puppy that you have their favourite toy, and start to get them excited about it. When they show interest, throw it a little bit away from you. They will likely follow it and pick it up. If they do, encourage them back to you with your voice, so remember to sound happy! Swap the toy for a treat or another toy and do the process again. Repeat this about 5 times. Instead create more distance and excitement sounds to get them to come to you — spaniels like to show off, so they will likely want to parade what they have! Step 1: Foundations By the age of 9 — 10 months, Trade had been toilet trained, knew his name and came back when I called him. He had been well socialised and behaved in company on a lead, was used to going out in my vehicle and had learned to swim. Trade has never been chastised for carrying something he should not, e. I then place the item out of reach. Crucially, by this age we had built up a good bond before formal training began. Step 2: Heelwork It was so wet and muddy at home so I started training on the patio and in our yard where the pup is restricted to a certain area and there are no distractions. We began with heelwork on the lead. To keep the exercise interesting, I walked in straight lines, did figures of eight, included the occasional tight turn and altered my pace. This all helped to keep Trade focused on what we were doing. If he didn't sit immediately, I repeated the command whilst pushing his bottom down with my left hand. Once confident with this routine, I put a lightweight collar on him and progressed to walking to heel off the lead, using my hands to encourage him to keep his head up and concentrate on me, when necessary. If he did move, I calmly walked up to him and, holding his collar, took him back to the exact spot he moved from in a quiet but positive manner. I slowly built up the distance until I could walk around him in a huge circle. Once he did this perfectly, I introduced the recall. Instead of always walking back to him, I would call him back to me, encouraging him to come straight to my hands which were cupped gently in front of my hips. Once I was happy with this, I began to mix up heelwork with sit and stay, and recall. When he didn't move, I quietly picked the dummy up myself. Gradually — over several days — I built on this until I could throw a couple of dummies, one at a time, over and around him and he remained steady. It is always important to lift the pup's top lip out of the way when you put a dummy in his mouth. Trade was reluctant to do this at first, but with patience and perseverance over several days, he accepted it. Slowly, I built on this until I could walk away backwards the length of the lead and call him to me, concentrating on perfecting a good delivery, using my hands to encourage him to bring the dummy right to me with his head held nice and high. Step 6: Retrieving Next, we worked on being sent for a retrieve. I then bent down and pointed my right hand towards the dummy whilst looking at the top of his head to make sure he was looking past my hand at it, before saying his name positively and at the same time letting go of one end of the lead so that he instinctively ran forward and picked the dummy. Initially, I sat back on my heels, which encouraged him to run straight back to me. Slowly we built on this until the lead was no longer needed. Sometimes I would send him for the dummy, sometimes I'd pick it up myself, or I'd walk him to heel in the opposite direction before sending him. On other occasions, I would stand well back from Trade and throw a dummy over his head, call him to me and then send him for the dummy from my position. I like to vary things as this keeps him interested and wondering what I am going to do next. He was at first a little unsure, so I repeated it in a lighter tone, to which he responded. In return, I praised him quietly. Always remember, training a dog is like building a house — it is imperative that the foundations are put down properly, otherwise, sooner or later, cracks will appear. Keep it light and encouraging when you praise, and low and gruff when you scold, so your puppy knows the difference. Especially if you have a boisterous puppy. Keep everything calm and relaxed, and do things in your time. Jayne Coley offers some valuable tips for the shooting enthusiast who is training a young dog. Register for our newsletter To continue reading this content please register for our newsletter. It's also about education — teaching him the manners and patience that make for a nice shooting companion. I try to be aware of this at all times. There are various scenarios in which you can work on embedding such manners in your dog, and below are a number of examples based on my own experience. Patience and manners My young lab has to sit and wait when I open his kennel run gate and while I slip a lead over his head. I then call him to me and, with my other dogs at heel, we go for a walk. When I'm picking-up and the horn is blown to signal the end of the drive, I don't let all of my dogs race off together. I send them off one at a time, by name, with the keenest dog being sent last. And so I replicate this when I'm out walking them, too. We are the last house at the end of a no-through road, so once we are out of our gate, I slip the lead off and ensure that my lab remains walking to heel, before I send the dogs off one at a time by their name as we continue down a field. My young dog is usually sent last, and so he has to wait, hence all the time teaching him to be patient. I have built up this exercise slowly over time, keeping him on a lead to start with and sending him from a sitting position, then with the length of the lead just looped around his neck to make sure he is steady as each dog is sent off. In the morning, after feeding, I sweep the kennels and change the dogs' water. This is another opportunity to perform a simple exercise that teaches patience, by sitting him up in the yard when I get to his kennel. Again, I have built up the length of time that he sits and waits slowly as his concentration level is still very limited. Photo credit: Gerrard Slade Obstacles in the field When we are on a walk, my dog is happy to hang around with my other labs who usually range up to 60 yards from me. If they go any further, I call them back. I walk in open land, with no livestock, so I can see what they are doing, and the youngster can rummage in hedgerows and other cover, and negotiate and get into ditches, all of his own accord. From following my other dogs he has learned to wriggle under wire, cleverly twist through rails and confidently pop over wire sheep netting. All of these obstacles can crop up when we are out in the shooting field, so it is very useful if we can encounter them and become familiar with them in our own time, beforehand. Please remember this is what I do with my fairly laid back puppy. A mischievous puppy would probably have to spend a lot of time on a lead whilst out for a walk. It is imperative that you assess your dog from a young age and train him accordingly to get the best out of him. Advanced toilet training Having a dog that is happy to go to the toilet whilst on a lead is so useful. This might not sound very impressive, but it is surprising how many dogs are not comfortable doing this. For example, you might be shooting quite a distance from home, which involves a night away. You arrive at your accommodation in the dark, only to find it is on the side of a busy road with nowhere to take your dog to be clean. The best way to teach your dog this is to keep him on a lead first thing in the morning when he is likely to be desperate to go to the toilet. Further training I have been training my dog in our field, initially going over everything he learned at home as explained HERE. Training sessions are held for 15—20 minutes every other day, rather than every day, because I feel I get more from him — he is more responsive. Using an Acme .To call him to me recall , I also use the whistle — four quick repetitive pips, repeated as necessary. Photo credit: Andrea Moffat Marking thrown dummies Again, this is all about progressing steadily. Don't rush things. The grass in our field is quite rough, so I started off by throwing a dummy which landed in a corner and into the wind to maximise the chance of success. I now send the dog for a single thrown dummy by just saying his name, so he doesn't take his eye off the fall. Whereas I originally used a small dummy all the time, now that his pick-up, carrying and delivery are perfect, I am introducing all sorts of different types of dummies and balls for him to retrieve. A ball on a rope is good because I can throw it out a long way and he has to get his head down to wind it. Blind retrieves I have built on this so I can send my dog for memory retrieves down the side of a hedge or fence, on tracks which help to keep him on course. Once mastered with a single dummy, I then introduced more dummies, so that now I can have three out, dropping one at a time, 20 yards apart as we walk to heel. Once again, I think about the wind. I make sure it is behind us when I send him for the closest dummy first, because I don't want him winding the other dummies and swapping the intended retrieve for them. Directional training When working on directional training, I sit the dog on a track, with a fence behind, and stand several paces in front of him. The fence acts as a barrier and ensures that Trade goes sideways rather than back, upon my command. With my right hand raised high above my head, I blow the stop whistle one long blast then throw a dummy to land on the track some 15 yards to the right his left. Should he hesitate, with my right arm still held out, I quietly take a step or two towards him, repeating the command in a lighter but still positive voice. After repeating this exercise successfully, I throw the dummy to the left and do the same routine again. I then progress to having two dummies out, one either side of the dog, and send him for one, before sitting him back up out in front of me, throwing that dummy back out in the same place, and then instructing him to pick the other dummy on the opposite side. Charlotte Peters January 24, A well-trained labrador is a dog to be proud of. Read bringing home a puppy for the first time. Know your puppy well What makes your labrador puppy tick? Is it bold, timid? Before you embark on training spend plenty of time with your dog so you understand its character, strengths and weaknesses. The first thing you must do when you bring your new puppy home is to establish a strong bond. These first days are key before training a labrador puppy. If you have a solid foundation, gundog training will go more smoothly. Read why play training is essential for gundog puppies. Feed it in the crate and have its bed in there. Avoid using the crate as punishment. A crate will help with toilet training too, as dogs find it uncomfortable to urinate or defecate where they sleep. Initially, the puppy might jump up, but be patient and eventually the dog will sit. When it does so, immediately put the food bowl down. Then go along as a spectator so you can judge for yourself. Avoid puppy classes where the trainer treats the dogs as though they are more or less all the same. Maybe the dog is a little bit more sensitive. It could be that the trainer lacks experience. Once they seem to be getting it right, allow them a chance to perfect that skill before rushing ahead to the next stage. Hold onto the puppy and throw a ball. The puppy will probably see this and get very excited about running to pick it up. As soon as the ball hits the ground let the puppy go and once it picks up the ball give it lots of encouragement. The chances are the puppy will simply want to get back to you and will come running to the sound of your voice without thinking too much about the ball. Give the pup lots of praise and then take the ball. Remember the puppy is still young. Once or twice is quite enough at first and do not throw the ball too far. Try to use either an area of lawn or at least flat grass so that the puppy can see the ball. You need to make things very easy at this stage. So no rushing. This is rewarding unwanted behaviour. Read the risks of over exercising a puppy. Biting Most puppies mouth but dogs need to understand that their teeth should never touch us. Do not play roughly as this gives the wrong message. Puppies do need to bite and chew, so make sure they have plenty of safe items for gnawing. This article was originally published in and has been updated. If you are looking to bring a puppy into your home, then you will need to think about puppy training because this works best when you start early. Lab puppies require a lot of stimulation when they are young as they are active, and this is why it can be easy to train them when you start early. Training is a lot more than teaching your Labrador tricks because it is also a way to teach the dog to be obedient. Photo by Ben Owen on Unsplash When a dog is obedient, it will be easier to live with but to ensure this is the case, you need to start training your Labrador as early in its life as possible. This is something lab breeders can help with if you choose the right one. When to Start Puppy Training? Labradors are one of the most popular breeds of dogs. They are intelligent, gentle, and adorable animals that make great pets in families of all ages, but this is not all that Labradors can do. Labradors can also be great working animals, and they are used in a range of roles, from police dogs to emotional support animals. Again, this is due to their intelligence which makes them easy to train for all roles, as well as their gentle nature. Training is important for all puppies, whether they are coming into the home as a pet or a working animal, but it is especially important for Labradors that are required for a job. If you are looking to buy lab puppies specifically to be used as a working dog, then training is vital, and this needs to start from day one to ensure success in this area. You can speak to your breeder about the reasons why you are looking for lab puppies, and they can guide you through this training process. The best breeders will get your puppy started on training, with small rules that are introduced into their life from the beginning making them easier to train when you bring them home. Rules can be introduced to lab puppies from a very early age, and breeders can get them started with things such as potty training and simple obedience tricks. Once you bring the puppy home, this initial training will ensure the dog is obedient and will therefore be easier to train to fit into your routine. Many people believe that purebred labs will be easy to train because of their intelligence. However, even though Labradors are known for their intelligence, this may not be the main quality of the purebred puppy you choose. Puppies are bred for different reasons, and sometimes the intelligence of the breed is not the main quality that breeders are looking for. This does not mean that Labradors are difficult dogs, but training puppies can be a tricky process. This is why, if you are looking to bring a dog into your home, you need to be prepared to be patient and offer your new dog a lot of time to ensure they understand the rules of the home. Puppies who have been trained early will be easier to make obedient because they will already be familiar with certain rules. This is why some of the best breeders will start training their puppies from day one, as this will make them easier to train once they go to their new home. As lab puppies are intelligent, they can be easy to train, and they enjoy this kind of stimulation. The best way to ensure your puppy will be well trained is consistency which means developing a good routine with training your dog. Click here for more tips in training Labrador puppies. Many people look into getting a Labrador because this is a popular breed and one that can fit into a range of family circumstances. Their gentle, social nature makes them suitable for even young families, and the intelligence of the breed makes them ideal for working roles. There are many reasons why you may be looking to buy a Labrador, but you must consider how much work raising a dog can be before making a solid decision. Puppies of all breeds, no matter how intelligent or gentle they are, require a lot of attention in their early years. Bringing a puppy home is a fun experience, but it can be stressful for the dog, and you need to have a lot of time available to make sure your new pet is settled into their home. Buying a lab puppy is not a decision you can make lightly, which is why leading breeders will have large waiting lists for their available dogs. This gives you time to consider whether your home is ready for a new puppy and whether you have enough free time to train them. Reputable breeders will have a waiting list for their dogs because they are in high demand, and this gives you time to determine whether buying a Labrador is the right decision for you. You can speak to your local breeder about your interest in Labrador puppies, and they will be able to guide you through this process. Good breeders will be available for ongoing support and advice to their customers, helping to make the transition of bringing a new dog home as seamless as possible. Raising Labrador puppies can be a rewarding role, but it requires a lot of work which is why you should not make the decision lightly. Reputable breeders will be certified and accredited, ensuring they offer the best services to their customers. With the right training and attention, Labrador puppies can be a great addition to any family, and they are also excellent working dogs. Labradors are a popular dog breed for so many reasons! From the moment they are born, we spend countless hours checking on them, holding them and playing with them. We strive to build a calm, self assured, yet happy and friendly disposition in our puppies. They spend time both in our house and outside, as well as in their fancy, new air conditioned kennels. They spend time socializing with our other dogs and our children as well.
