Our Philosophy The Engelbrecht's Breeding Program The goal for Heartstone's breeding program is to produce beautiful golden retrievers that adhere to the golden retriever breed standards in every way. This includes body type and temperament, among other specific qualities. Currently, we breed one litter per year. All of our breeding dogs are listed on K9 Data and have all of their clearances completed which includes hips, elbows, eyes and heart. Our desire is to help you find your "heart dog"; the companion that touches your heart and fills you with love, warmth and joy for their entire lifetime! Puppy pads Create a Schedule Golden Retriever pups would do well with a schedule. Dogs live with a routine, and they are easy to train by having one. For this reason, make a schedule of the things you need to do regularly. Eventually, your pup will learn the routine events and will make itself adept at them. It will help you prepare for your pet, especially in the first few days of living together. As you allow your pet to adjust, do your best to create a stress-free environment for it. Always supervise it as it familiarizes itself with its new home. It can even grow louder as they age. Moderate Training Golden Retrievers responds well, especially to positive reinforcement. She has a very special place in my heart just because she was the first and the very reason that Golden Retriever babies are part of my life to this day. Her personality and joy of life was just like all of my other Goldens and even more. Tallie is now in heaven and truly missed and thought about each and every day. Joint Problems Fox Terriers are prone to a couple of joint-related issues: Hip and Elbow Dysplasia Both of these conditions cause a deterioration of the affected joint and can lead to arthritis. While the condition is not totally understood at this time, it is believed to be caused by decreased blood flow to the hip. This lack of sufficient blood leads to a brittle femur thigh bone which can fracture quite easily. It causes lameness in the back legs and pain. Surgery is often required. Heart Disease Like many breeds, the Fox Terrier is prone to heart disease. In fact, this is the leading cause of death in older Fox Terriers. Heart disease is the result of a weakening or deformation in the heart valves that allow a backflow of blood in the heart. This puts more strain on the heart.
