Since it is not desirable for a show dog to be fully black due to the breed being predominantly white the rule is that at least fifteen percent white is required to be able to participate in conformation events. If the breeder does have black American Bulldogs, then a DNA test to rule out genetic diseases is necessary. Indeed, it is a steep price, but the amount of dog you are getting is more than worth it.
