He is a fantastic dog. .He does like to play with chew toys and if this boy becomes yours.He loves his doggie pool filled with water an human in-ground pools too! He loves to play fetch with the object landing in the pool for him to take a splash while retrieving it. He loves car rides. He can get a bit of "selective hearing" when he plays. He knows a few basic commands but could use some more training as far as not jumping up on you when playing. Chopper loves to be outside so a home that allows him indoor access but also outside time too would be best. He gets along wth dogs but is the alpha , we have had him around older kids and he does great. We have not tested him with cats or young children, when he gets super excited he can jump up and does not know his own strength, so if you have children, you would have to remind him to stay down. Chopper is neutered, up to date of vaccines and microchipped. Please note: Chopper has been DNA tested. Although we thought he had pitbull in him, he does not have any pittie in him. Erect a heat lamp over one side of the pool to keep the newborn litter warm when the mother gets up to eat or take a potty break. Step 4 Observe your boxer carefully for the first stage of labor. Your dog may pace, dig and circle around in the whelping box to prepare a safe nest for the impending puppies. The dog may lay down and get up repeatedly, pant, pace or lick her vulva as she starts having contractions. He takes his place as Beta, listens well and all is right with the world. It is important to note that ensuring your proper place as leader can and should be done in a loving way. You will be a caring, kind and fair leader. Nothing about this is harsh and expecting your Boxer to listen to you is not only appropriate, it is the path to a balanced, happy household. The rules of getting a Boxer puppy or dog to listen are not that difficult; the element that many owners do have is consistency. Sit at the table. When your Boxer is looking at you, take several bites. Ignore any barking , jumping, begging or whining. The correlation we touched on earlier in regard to a Boxer rushing out of the house first and also being a dog that does not listen is crucial in understanding how to fix the obedience issue. Through the eyes of a canine, the house is his den. It is his safe place, one to relax with his pack and defend from outsiders. And there is one major rule in regard to the den: The leader of it has the privilege to enter it and exit it first. His Betas then follow him. How to fix this: Take charge of this by being the one to enter and exit first. It is recommended to: 1. Within a few feet of the door, command your Boxer to 'Sit'. While he is holding, attach his leash. Reaffirm the 'Sit' command by repeating it as you open the door. Close the door to block him from exiting and again order him to sit. For puppies that are being housebroken , certainly do not allow an accident to occur just to follow this training. But at all other times that you take your Boxer outside, do follow this. While it may seem very innocent to walk around your Boxer if he is in the hallway or other area that you need to pass by, allowing a dog to remain in place and stepping over or around him sends the wrong signal. It should be the dog that moves for the owner and not the other way around. And the Boxer should, on first command, listen to the order to move off of the sofa or at the very least, make room for his owner. If you allow a Boxer to secure dominance over any area of the house, this is essentially telling a dog that he is in a power position, and you — the subordinate- will accommodate him by troubling yourself to move around him or sit yourself on a difference piece of furniture. And as you can imagine, passing this sort of message to a dog will then lead to all sorts of hierarchy issues, including the one of being ignored and not being listened to. How to fix this: Again, this should all be done with love. Do not take no for an answer. If need be, attach his leash and physically lead him away. In time, with the other rules followed, once your Boxer sees that you are his leader, he will automatically make room for you as you approach, which is a clear sign of respect. This said, some Boxers will not go along with the change without at least giving it a bit of a fight. There may be a power struggle for several weeks until the dog finally gives in, accepts his Beta role and begins to listen. If there is indeed a lot of resistance, there are some other things to look at: 1. Spaying and neutering has many benefits including decreased risks for some cancers and of course prevention of an unplanned tie. You might be surprised just how often this happens. While there is some debate over this in regard to female dogs, most experts agree that it is helpful with males. Sleeping arrangements. For these reasons, we highly suggest never starting this to begin with. A Boxer should have his own sleeping area. This should be a high quality canine bed for proper support and be placed in a common area such as the living room, so that the Boxer is not isolated but has his own area to retreat to when feeling tired. Superior positioning. For this, you will not sit on the floor with your Boxer. If you are sitting on a chair or sofa, your Boxer will remain on the floor and by your feet is just fine. Maintaining Authority Once you have things under control and your Boxer is starting to listen to you, it is not the time to let up on how you handle these elements. Although they may have started as a herding dog, GSDs have been used to perform a huge array of tasks. They are a popular breed for police work, search and rescue, and tracking. But the German Shepherd also makes a fantastic companion dog. Single Coats vs Double Coats in dogs. Dogs have either double coats or single coats. In dogs with a double coat, the undercoat is made up of softer, dense usually short fur. It keeps the dog warm in cold weather, and also protects the dog against extreme heat. If a dog has a single coat, then there is only the topcoat. No undercoat will be present. Are German Shepherds Double-Coated? Although German Shepherds have the same general looks, there is some variation within the breed. German Shepherds are generally considered double-coated dogs, but the coat can come in a variety of lengths and thicknesses. Some German Shepherd dogs do not have an undercoat present. The only German Shepherds that are acceptable in competitions will have a medium-length overcoat with an undercoat. If the dog does not have an undercoat, then this is considered a fault by the AKC. Some dogs have undercoats that are very sparse or that shed completely. This is called an open coat, and it is also considered to be a fault. German Shepherd coats can vary greatly. A medium-length coat, which is usually one or two inches long and is the only coat acceptable for show lines. There will be an undercoat present. A long coat with an undercoat, which will have an overcoat at least two inches long. This coat will usually be very thick, which makes these particular dogs especially well-suited to colder climates. A long coat without an undercoat, which looks very similar to a dog with a long coat with an undercoat, but without an undercoat. Coat Types and Shedding German Shepherds shed throughout the year, but their coat type can affect the amount that they shed. One of the biggest mistakes you can make for your dog is bathing him too often. You should only have to bathe your GSD every 3 to 4 months or so. Raw eggs contain an enzyme called avidin, which decreases the absorption of biotin a B vitamin. This can, in extreme cease, lead to skin and coat problems. Never use cooked bones. Commercial Puppy Foods Most commercial puppy foods are designated for small, medium, large and giant breeds. This designation can be found on the label.
