They were both completely feral and would spend all of their time hiding. Howie 13 lbs has made wonderful progress with his foster mom. He gets excited to see her, will come up to her and allow her to pick him up and ask to be petted. He is still very fearful of her walking towards him and not allowing him to come to her and of fast movements but we are very happy with his progress. Keep in mind when he goes to a new home he will need lots of time before he trusts someone like he trusts his foster mom but we know he has it in him. He has made very small steps in progress but it has been minimal. He is going to take a much longer time to open up and in all honesty may never be a completely normal dog. Neither boy is potty trained. Jace cannot be free in a yard as you will never be able to get him back inside and neither boy likes a leash so potty training at the moment is a little impossible. They will need to go to a home that has a social dog to help them learn. We understand that it is going to take an extra special and patient home for them. However, this is the time when most puppies receive another worming treatment. Veterinarians will only really be involved if there are any serious health issues with any of the puppies. Puppies that are 4 weeks old should not leave their mother and littermates. If a breeder tries to send you away with a 4 week puppy, walk away. It is a criminal offence to sell underage puppies in many regions, so you could also report them too the local authorities. If your Pug is feeling sad or down for this reason, it will be important to allow him to grieve the loss. If it was a household member that is gone, it will be normal for a Pug to roam the house looking for him, or to gaze out of a window waiting for that person to arrive. What to do: It can be hard to watch a Pug feel unhappy like this. While you will want to give him time to accept the loss, there are some things that you can do. It can help to engage your Pug in an activity that is new to him. This can be a walk in a new neighborhood, or a visit to a new place. Any sort of safe location in which he can see new things, hear new sounds, and smell new scents can help to perk him up. This can be a lake shore, hiking trail, pet store… any place that is novel. Some windows of down time are just fine. Days, weeks, or months on end can end up making a Pug rather depressed. Also, as a Pug matures, issues with boredom can increase. This is because as he ages, his comprehension of the world strengthens. What used to satisfy a puppy may not be enough for an adult Pug. He should have at least 2 walks per day, a session of some type of learning commands, a trick, heeling, etc. Pugs should have toys that encourage independent play.
