He walks great on a loose chain, and he sits in this position until release by another command. He does well in the down command but is still a bit stubborn. I also have been training him to stay in a particular spot until released and he is doing very well with that. Overall is making very good progress. It's hard to remember life before we had her. She adjusted very nicely to her new home. She and our cat were getting along and the cat was very interested in her, dare I say he really enjoyed her. Two weeks after we got Rylee the cat took ill and had to be put down. Our family was incredibly sad, and I think Rylee understood that something bad happened. Having Rylee in our lives and home cushioned the blow for all of us and she helped us heal. As they say, timing is everything and she is just what we needed. We've had Rylee for two months now, and in that time she has learned so much. Without jinxing myself, I'll say that she house trained within a few weeks. Sure, she thought the rug was a great place to pee and poop when she first got here, but she quickly learned that outside was even better. Alyssa trained her to use the poochie bells in just a few days and now she rings them when she has to go out. We even put a second set of bells in our family room and she learned to use them if we are all sitting in there. She graduated from Puppy Kindergarten this week and begins basic training next week. She has learned to sit, down, down stay, high five, shake hands, spin, roll over, fetch, come, and is working off leash to heel, stay, and come when called. She learns so fast and is really fun to train and play with. I've been taking here with me everywhere and she melts hearts wherever she goes. She loves the car, kids, adults, other dogs, even the vet and groomer. People can't get enough of her! We are working with her to not jump up on people when someone comes to pet her. The obvious joy and love the dog expresses for our kids every time they come home is so beautiful to watch. Today Besa is 14 and we still call her puppy. As so many dogs have, she has truly enjoyed the pandemic and spends every day sleeping in a bed in the office both my wife and I work from. In general, Besa is still in excellent health but is not immune from aging. She has some bladder leakage when she sleeps and has had a heart murmur for many years. We feel so incredibly blessed to have her as part of our lives and will treasure every day we get to spend with her. I'll add yet another thank you to the mountain of them you have received. Pearl has been such a blessing and in some ways, she is like my guardian angel. I feel so fortunate in that Pearl from an incredibly early age began alerting me and it was I that took a while to catch on what she was doing. Long before Pearl ever started her official training, and basically from the day I brought her home, I would have her lay on my chest with her nose near my mouth. She would nap that way, and we would cuddle that way. So, if I was wearing an article of clothing when I had a bloodsugar issue, I would use that article as my scenting tool. She learned skills and behaviors associated with service dog duties and along with the trainer, we came up with ways to add the skills that Pearl seemed to intuitively have to new skills and put it all together. I feel like none of this would not be if I would have not had Pearl and you come into my life. Pearl is more than just a service dog, more than a companion animal…. Oh Rochelle, I wish you could see her. She is not only beautiful, she has a calm sweetness to her that just makes you melt. I took her with me to California a couple of weeks ago. When I got there, my dad was laying down in bed. After we came in and gave a hug to mom, I took her off leash and she went immediately back to their bedroom where dad was laying. She looked at me and I nodded and she jumped right in bed with him and quickly laid down next to him with her head on his chest. My mom said it was the first time that dad smiled and laughed for days. For the rest of the week that we were there, Pearl rotated from dad to I, checking in with both of us often. Males will have most likely doubled in weight from month 1 , weighing in the range of 16 to 20 pounds. Females are close behind, weighing in the range of 11 to 17 pounds. The most significant physical development since month 1, besides their overall size, is that their puppy teeth should be fully grown in. Those cute little ears may be standing up quite a bit now. However, they may fluctuate in between up and down during their teething stages. Nutrition: A 2 month old German Shepherd should no longer be dependent upon its mother for milk. Exercise Needs German Shepherds are one of the most energetic dogs with high levels of vigor and exercise demands. Importance Exercise plays a vital role in their growth and development. It strengthens the muscles and bones which are required for a strong build. These are stress-dependent and grow better when used regularly. Also, it enhances the release of growth hormones which causes the body to grow. Ways to Exercise There are many ways to exercise your pooch, but walking is the best one at this age. It is easy for your pup and convenient to do regularly. How much to walk You would need to start taking your pup out for walking by this time. Initially, minute walks twice a day would suffice. It should be in a relaxed mood without any hurrying. Make it as calm and enjoyable for the pup as possible. This should be placed near your bed or sleeping area, allowing you to keep an eye on the pup during its sleep and also making it accustomed to your scent. This strengthens the puppy-owner bond. Regulate the lights and temperature during this time. The temperature should be cooler than outside in summer and in winter to make it as cozy as possible. Dimming the lights allows a natural sleep with fewer interruptions. Prerequisites for a better sleep Dogs sleep better with a tired body. A dog whose energy has not been drained throughout the day is less likely to sleep early and will have more waking spells during its sleep. Make sure your dog exercises regularly each day for better sleep. Having a routine for the loo is also effective for less disruptive sleep. Behavior training Before evolving into an adult dog with a more stable and predictable mood, dogs pass through many stages of behavior. Sometimes, pups that are too sensitive get easily offended by your reprimands and show flare-ups. You need to be more gentle around such pups and use reward-based tactics for behavior change instead of reprimands. Potty Training Teach your dog to poop at the place you have set up for it and offer rewards when it defecates there.
